Beth Buglio

Downingtown Area School District

Biography:

Beth Buglio ’81 teaches high school Japanese in Downingtown Area School District. Beth is serving as a lead teacher in J-LEAP, a program administered by the Japan Foundation and the Laurasian Institution.  J-LEAP chooses teachers in the U.S. and sends young, native-speaker assistant teachers from Japan to team-teach with them for two years.  Kizuna Across Cultures (KAC) has also picked Beth’s program to be part of a six-month, online, intercultural exchange next year. Every week, through KAC Global Classmates, her level 2 and 3 students will exchange videos and messages with a class in Nagano, Japan.  Beth learned Japanese as a Rotary Exchange student in Fukushima-ken in 1976. She taught learning support, emotional support, and deaf classes in southeastern PA before her tie to Japan grew into a second career.
